Vicky Vaughn was the junior division of R & M Kaufmann, Illinois. The Kaufman brothers began making ladies dresses in 1922. They built their business by producing high quality but moderately priced dresses, undergarments and sleepwear. Inthe 1930s, Kaufmann revolutionised the garment industry by adding their own novel embroidery, applique and cornelli trim, while other garment manufacturers continued to rely on New York trim manufacturers.The Kaufmann's wereable to keep prices low by mass producing garments in theirown factories. The motto was"Only the LOOK is expensive." Sales grew steadily through the use of full page advertisements in Seventeen, Mademoiselle, Life and Charm magazines, as well as the use of live television commercials The Kaufmann's also produced theToni ToddandLady Lauralines. The company was sold to Russ Togs in 1969. In 1988 the Kaufmann family bought the firm back from Russ Togs and continued operations into the 1990s when it was sold to Global Clothing, Inc. With the love of the rag trade in the familyblood for nearly a century, the Kaufmann's grandson was retained asexecutive helping a younger generation garment company thrive in an ever increasingly competitive worldwide market
